Non-Essential Necessities is a collection of photographs taken during Motong’s one year wandering among several provinces in China, 2021. They are both the two dimensional records of these footsteps, and also the results of some intentional looking. Regardless of places and environments, these ʻartificial’ elements are prevalent in all kinds of situations, most of them are easily ignored, but never easily replaced. These seemingly coincidental, but highly reasonable moments are responses to the delicate and complicated relationships between human, the manmade and natural products.
